Trump targeted by more protesters

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is the target of protesters again in New York over his call to bar Muslims from entering the U.S. Paul Chapman reports.

Friday’s protest outside the Plaza Hotel in New York was the latest over Donald Trump’s call to bar Muslims from entering the U.S. The controversial Republican presidential candidate was speaking there at a party fundraiser. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ABER KAWAS, ARAB-AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK, SAYING: “We wanted to come out here and make a statement and make sure people knew it’s unacceptable for somebody running for president of the United States to say these things.” (SOUNDBITE) (English) PETER HOGNESS, PROTESTER, SAYING: “When Trump tries to start putting one religion against another, just trying to say he’s going to keep people out of the country based on their religion, just as a New Yorker I’m offended by that.” The same day Jay Leno, speaking ahead of a Nobel concert he was hosting in Norway, also laid into Trump’s remarks. (SOUNDBITE) (English) COMEDIAN JAY LENO SAYING: “I think it will wake up a lot of Americans to what our constitution actually says. It doesn’t allow that type of nonsense.” Musician Jason Derulo, who was among the performers at the Oslo concert, was equally scathing about Trump’s comments. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MUSICIAN JASON DERULO SAYING: “It’s a ridiculous statement and I don’t think anyone is taking it seriously.” In a further twist a petition demanding a ban on Donald Trump entering Britain passed a half million signatures on Friday. That’s way above the minimum threshold required for the UK parliament to consider the measure.
